Frequently asked questions

Does the app cost anything?

No. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.

Does the child need internet?

No. The whole atlas, every question and all progress work offline. The app contains no networking code at all.

What age is the app for?

Roughly 7–13. The Discoverer level has three answer options and a regional map, Navigator has four options, and Expert requires typing the name with no options at all.

Can several children share one iPad?

At present one profile is stored per device, so the next child overwrites the previous child's progress. Support for multiple profiles is the highest item on the list.

Where is progress stored?

Only on the device. It may be included in your own iCloud backup, but we hold no copy and cannot restore it. Uninstalling the app deletes all data.

Why is my country or city missing?

The world pack contains 196 countries, 193 capitals and the 75 largest cities outside the capitals. Cities are selected by population, so smaller ones are not included yet. The Swedish pack is considerably more detailed, with all 290 municipalities.

Is there a leaderboard?

No, deliberately. A child's results are never compared with anyone else's. There are personal bests per game mode, awards and mastery stars.

Report a factual error

Fact texts and memory hooks are written by hand and reviewed, but errors can remain — and geography changes. If you find something wrong, email the place and what is incorrect. Such corrections jump the queue.

Right now Europe's 44 countries and their capitals have their own written texts. The rest of the world still uses shorter default texts, and is being built out region by region.

Accessibility

The app supports:

• Dynamic Type — all text grows with the system text size
• VoiceOver — the map is navigable too, and flag questions do not give away the answer
• Reduce Motion — animations are replaced with fades
• Reduce Transparency — glass surfaces become opaque
• Read aloud for questions and fact cards using the system voice

If something does not work properly with assistive technology we want to know. That counts as a bug, not a feature request.

System requirements

iOS 17 or later, iPhone or iPad. The app works in both portrait and landscape, and has its own sidebar layout on iPad.
